Artwork Systems inPDF™
inPDF™ — Intelligent PDF — is Artwork Systems’ new technology for Adobe Illustrator CS® users developed to streamline Illustrator’s file exchange with native PDF prepress environments.
inPDF™
This plug-in technology for Adobe Illustrator CS is completely based on the PDF standard and provides pre-press environments with a much better file exchange between Adobe Illustrator and native PDF software components such as PDF editors and workflows.
Shield for Adobe Illustrator files
The inPDF™ technology shields the editing capabilities of the Adobe Illustrator file as this file travels through and gets modified in a standard PDF environment.
Today, when a PDF file generated by Adobe Illustrator is modified by any PDF editing tool, many of the original editing capabilities of the document are lost if the document is brought back into Illustrator. Possible document layers, groups, image links, and Illustrator application behavior (such as brushes, libraries, and pallets) will not be restored. The reason for this is that the Adobe Illustrator application restores this part of the information from its own Adobe Illustrator file format and not from the native PDF data. Typically, opening a file that was modified outside Illustrator will result in a dialog that prompts you to select either the unmodified Illustrator part of the file or the modified PDF file but with the restriction of losing some editing capabilities.
 |
inPDF™ eliminates this unpleasant choice. Pre-press professionals can now get the best of both worlds by preserving the changes in the PDF and still maintaining the editing capabilities that exist when opening a native Illustrator file. Or put differently, work in native PDF with the look and feel of an Adobe Illustrator document. |
Increase Illustrator’s PDF reading and writing skills
inPDF™ upgrades the PDF compatibility of Adobe Illustrator CS to provide much better and more productive pre-press PDF file exchange with Artwork Systems’ software components.
inPDF™ will allow pre-press professionals to open up native PDF documents from other pre-press editors and workflows (like ArtPro, Nexus, and Odystar) – including documents that were not originally created in Illustrator– and edit and save them as native Illustrator files. The inPDF™ plug-in will accept PDF 1.5 documents, including those containing the pre-press oriented device N color space, and turn them into editable Illustrator jobs maintaining all layers, groups, external image links, etc.
Exchange with ArtPro, Nexus and Odystar
inPDF™ allows you to read PDF documents generated from ArtPro, Nexus, and Odystar into Adobe Illustrator, retrieving all important information such as groups, layers, device N objects (1 object can contain multiple spot color fills), spot color mapped images, linked images (instead of embedded), etc.… Additionally, inPDF™ allows you to import Illustrator files into ArtPro, Nexus and Odystar while keeping the image links alive.
Chip technology for Adobe Illustrator CS
To draw an analogy between a PDF document and a credit card, one could say that the Adobe Illustrator application today is capable of reading and writing data on the black magnetic strip on the back of the card. Installing the inPDF™ plug-in inside Illustrator is comparable to upgrading a credit card reading device with data chip technology. The inPDF™ plug-in inside the standard Illustrator environment enables extra data exchange with the chip on the front of the credit card (in other words, the PDF document). This extra information upgrades Illustrator with better pre-press oriented PDF reading and writing capabilities. |
